Ofonime Quinta Edem Ekong, but you can call me Q.
I’m a Nigerian-American coach, athlete, and gym owner based in San Mateo, California. Fitness found me on the track and field, where I competed as a top athlete. It taught me grit, leadership, and how to turn pressure into progress. Today, I bring that same energy to every training session, rep, and conversation.
I started Quinta’s Jungle Gym in 2011 as a way to program workouts for my college friends. By 2014, it had grown into a full community—and now, it’s a physical gym studio in San Mateo where I train adult women and men and teens in strength and conditioning.
My coaching style is personal and holistic. I’ve taught 7th grade girls volleyball during the pandemic (outside, in the park—because they needed movement and hope). I’ve coached high school track & field at my alma mater, Hillsdale High, where I once was class president and still am a school record-holder. And I’ve helped clients find joy in fitness again, even when the world shut down. During the pandemic, I converted my family garage into a fully equipped gym, where people came to lift, sweat, and feel alive. That little space—dubbed Quinta’s Garage Gym—even caught the attention of lululemon, and I became one of their sponsored athletes in 2022.
I’ve competed naturally in 7 NPC bodybuilding shows, placing top 5 every time. I’ve also been a sponsored athlete with SteelFit USA, traveling to shows like the Olympia and Arnold Classic to educate others on effective supplementation and recovery. Prior to that, I was one of just four sponsored athletes with Formula Sports Nutrition, where I studied over 30 different performance brands to help clients fuel with intention.
Beyond the weight room, I’ve served as a founding personal trainer at 24 Hour Fitness SuperSport in Redwood City, built youth and elderly-specific training programs, and pursued ongoing education through my NESTA certification, with specialties in pre/postnatal training, TRX, youth athletics, elder care, and nutrition coaching.
At my core, I help people reconnect with their strength. Whether you’re a busy parent, an ambitious athlete, or someone just starting over—I’m here for the long game. I believe fitness should feel like a return to self, not a punishment. That we don’t just train bodies—we strengthen spirits.
And while I may be known for serious lifts and tough workouts, I’m just as serious about good music, belly laughs, and a community that supports you every step of the way.
I’m Quinta, Queen, Coach Q, Q. Welcome to Quinta’s Jungle Gym. Let’s train.
What People Are Saying
“I met Q back in her 24 hour training days during group workouts and loved her energy. She was my trainer pre-baby, during pregnancy and post-baby. Workout out with a trainer held me accountable and really pushed me beyond my limits. I don’t need a trainer, but it has been a great investment for me through and through. Love you Q!”
